Best Eco Notebooks
The best eco notebook is the Kraft Paper Notebook - but others rank highly too. Namely:

  • Apple Peel Notebooks
  • Sugar Cane Notebooks
  • Recycled leather
  • Stone Paper from Karst

How do you decide what is the BEST eco notebook?

To rank eco products is always very difficult because there is no real standard measure for eco credentials, and one has to balance eco credentials with price. And most importantly the notebook must work as a promotional product. So, it must be retained and look great when branded. With Pavilion Earth’s years of selling products, we have come up with our ranking based on the popularity and success of various promotional eco notebooks.
One significant issue for a notebook is should the inner pages be recycled or be from FSC sustainable sources. The argument is complex one and a subject for another blog but lots information about the argument can be found here:

Appearances matter
Does it look eco? Do you want the receiver to instantly perceive that the product is eco and that you share their eco concerns? Some eco products are very high quality and it is not obvious they are made from recycled materials. Is that good or bad? – there is no right answer to this.

So what are the best eco notebooks – in order:

1. Promotional Kraft Paper Notebooks

Cover is made from recycled Kraft paper with inner pages from recycled paper with 100 sheets of 70gsm. Not only made from recycled paper but the book itself can be recycled. A note book which is highly cost effective, but they have a natural eco feel. They convey the eco credentials without having to label as eco.

2. Apple Peel Notebook

Really luxury feel notebook which can compete with the Moleskine for quality. The cover is made from Apple Peel starch which makes it fully biodegradable unlike the PU cover of a Moleskine or similar. The inner sheets are from FSC sustainable paper and the factory where they are produced uses 100% renewable energy.

3.  Sugar Cane Notebook

This book has no paper at all – it is made from sugarcane bagasse . Bagasse is waste from sugar production and is used to make sugarcane paper. Naturally biodegradable. Better still is that the spine material, ribbon, elastic and pen loop is made from RPET (recycled polyester). 80pp notebook (160 internal sheets) which are equivalent to 80gsm.

4. Recycled Leather Notebook

144 waterproof, tear-resistant lined pages. The Karst Stone notebook is made from a process which essentially re-constituted chalk as a fine paper – the surprise is how smooth the ‘paper’ is – particular suited to a fountain pen. No deforestation and a high quality notebook.
